Who is Desir'e?
Desiré J. Savigny was an artist and musician who often performed on Granville street in downtown Vancouver in the early 1960's. He played a homemade instrument called "The Oiid", which consisted of guitar strings stretched around a hubcap strummed by two bows. The hubcap was guitar pickups contact mic and run through a chorus pedal to create the haunting and beautiful tones captured on this recording amidst the Granville street traffic. We can also hear improvised sessions from Savigny's home (a kind of giant musical instrument itself) Sadly, Savigny passed away in 2019.
